Realism was my first artistic obsession. When my parents divorced, I saw a frame in the lawyer's office that was just a shadowbox full of crumpled white paper, and I told my dad they should let me (and him, a decorative painter) do a real piece of art for them. He told me it was a drawing in pencil on flat paper, and I was bewildered for the next fifteen years. I still gasp at great realism even when I know the tricks, always looking for a move I don't know yet. I love to create (or recreate from a photograph) human faces, animals, objects, textiles, and special effects. Let's do something that will make people wonder how the fuck we did it.
